Rysan Fall - SX Magazine Awards Video Categories Judge

Here we are at least, dear readers,

Our final interview with the video category judges. Sit back with your favorite mug, filled with some nice coffee (or something a little more potent depending on your timezone), and enjoy this intriguing look at one of the most interesting and well respected SL machinima producers. Today we give you, Rysan Fall.

In Rysan's words:
My name is Rysan Fall. I have been a member of Second Life since Dec 2nd, 2007. I have been making machinima since February 2008. This initially was intended to be practice for real life film making. When I started I had no idea there was a whole genre of film making dedicated to filming in a virtual environment. My videos became popular in the machinima community, which really was a surprise to me. I decided to offer my skills to business, creating commercials and making keepsake (wedding) videos for the people in this virtual environment.  My desire to make more detailed machinima films grew, and real life film making kind of took a back seat. But I wanted to take what I’ve learned and put it to real life film,.

Machinima has been very good to me, and I am very grateful for everything it’s given me. I’ve been interviewed countless times, I’ve spoke at many lectures, events and universities. I’ve had the opportunity to work for Tufts University, University of Florida, and the University of Central Missouri. I’ve even been honored with filming the first Virtual College Graduation ceremony for Bryant Stratton College in Second Life featured on FOX National News. One thing I was really excited about, I was contacted by U2's Principle Management to inform me that my U2inSL video was selected to be played on the big screen at the Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. as the REAL U2 perform their song, "Even Better Than the Real Thing".  My visuals went through the approval processes from Linden Labs to me and finally approved by U2's Principle Management. That was really exciting for me. I’ve been interviewed for The Book “Machinima: The Art and Practice of Virtual Filmmaking.  A few of my videos was seen by a company called How2Connect.com (now called acute care triage), which specializes in providing online therapy and EAP solutions for subscribers. They were in the process of creating their own virtual world at the time, and wanted someone to make their machinima for them. They flew me to California for a week and asked me to become a part of their team, and I accepted. After 4 years I, now edit all of their “Real Life” department  video.

Along with all of this, I do voice over work also. I have also done some radio. I used to have a weekly hip hop news segment on an underground hip hop show called “The Fireset” on 90.7 WTCC. Ive done voice over work for CPTV Sports (Connecticut Public Broadcasting).  I won an award for best male voice over in an animated film in 2011 at the Los Angeles Media Awards for my role as “Sebastian” ” a super computer from the future in “Time Travelers Series Produced by Pooky Amsterdamn and Dr. James Canton. Like I said machinima has been very good to me...it got me into the institute for Advanced Media in Hartford CT., a year long internship at CPTV and I’ve just stated working in the creative services dept. for FOX News in CT.

What will you be looking for, in general, from a well produced adult video?
Rysan: Well a good friend of mine approached me and asked if I could judge. ( Katina Cazalet)  She remembered how I had a few films in the previous "the sexiest" awards. When she told me what it was for, I was happy to help.

Have you ever done, or considered doing an adult video?
Rysan: Yes, I've done several from 2011-2013. Although, I don't consider myself as a pornographer or adult film maker. I am mostly mainstream..

Would you approach a "mainstream" movie production differently from adult?
Rysan: Actually no. Whether it's mainstream or adult, I believe you still have to set your project the same way. You have to gather materials, find the sets, actors and storyboard your film in the same way. I think the only difference is that in adult the actors have to look good without clothes just as much as they would in clothes.

I got started in movies...
Rysan: This initially was intended to be practice for real life film making. When I started I had no idea there was a whole genre of film making dedicated to filming in a virtual environment.

I enjoy being a producer because...
Rysan: I love being creative. I love many forms of  artistic expression. Being a machinima producer has offered me the ability to tell a story without the use of expensive equipment. It can be difficult and tedious at times, but the payoff comes when the video is done. When people appreciate your work, its the best feeling in the world.

I draw inspiration from...
Rysan: I draw inspiration from anything. Movies, Television, a song, a memory, a fantasy....anywhere. I love artwork that says something. That has a message. I have so many ideas in my head ,and they come and go. But its all the time. But every once in a while an idea will scream to be made, and I feel like I have to do it.

The best way to deliver the story in a movie is...  (eg. subtitles, captions, voice-over, the imagery itself... )
Rysan: My favorite way of telling a story is to use voice overs and match them with the mouth, to give the story that movie feel. Im not usually a fan using or reading subtitles in a film. But I do believe if a film has neither voice or subtitles ...its could still tell a powerful story if done right.

The optimal length for a movie is...
Rysan: I have found  that with machinima, peoples attention spans are really short. So, I believe that you have to capture the attention of your audience, hold it, and then let go as soon as possible. Any thing over 15 minutes and you're pushing it  in regards to people getting bored.

Producing a movie involves... (eg. commentary on steps, time to conceptualize/plan/shoot/edit...)
Rysan: A good idea, story boarding (optional). a really strong graphics card, and editing program (i.e adobe premier, sony vegas) a capture program (i.e  Fraps, Bandicam)

a successful actress/actor is...
Rysan: a successful machinima actor is someone that can change into many different looks. Being available and on time for shoots. For me the ability to voice act is a plus.

I would work with an actor/acctress again because... (eg appearance, personality, dependability...)
Rysan: I would take appearance, personality and dependability into consideration if I was to work with and actor a second time.

A new actor/actress can most benefit from...
Rysan: Being someone that can change into many different looks. Being available and on time for shoots. For me the ability to voice act is a plus....lol. Try not to become romantically involved with the producers.

A new producer can most benefit from...
Rysan: Being serious about your project and seeing it through. Doing whatever it takes to get it done.  And...Try not to become romantically involved with the actors.

Emily - SX Magazine Awards Video Categories Judge

Hello again faithful blog reader types,

Our next interview with a video category judge is of galactic proportions. Really, Emily should not be unknown to most of you. Host of the longest running official porn star party, and producer of countless movies (ok, well, the count is actually below but I don't want to spoil it). Here is a deeper look at this prolific porn icon.

In Emily's Words:
Emily has been making porn for 5 years, in those 5 years she has made and been in about 150 movies, 133 she directed!!! Since were comparing this to the sexist awards in 2015 she won Sexiest  best movie & Sexiest  best director for her work in 2014's Legs Wide Spread, Sexiest  Awards Lifetime achievement award and she still hasn't retired yet, elevating Second Life porn to a whole other level with her epically successful erotic space adventure series; Intergalactic SLUTS, which is currently on it's 2nd season.

I got started producing movies...
Emily: Because in 2011 Movies were the biggest, that was the main focus in SL porn and I had some experience in making some very simple movies and enjoined it more than photos

I enjoy being a producer because...
Emily: I can tell a story and be WAY more creative with a movie than a picture. And I enjoy give people the "Movie Star" experience in SL.

I draw inspiration from...
Emily: Early days Serenity and Thorgal, but our styles are different so now I love going to the movies in the theater where movies are meant to be watch and taking it all in and thinking how I could do some of the biggest scene with the limitations of SL.

The best way to deliver the story in a movie is...  (eg. subtitles, captions, the imagery itself... )
Emily: Most movies are 2 people telepathically linked, starring at each other and say "Want to fuck". Sound tracks are best, but they have the limitation of following dialog.  Currently I write the story out on a computer screen like giving a report and got that idea, from video games that write out your "mission" before you start.

The optimal length for a movie is...
Emily: 7 minutes, Because attention spans are short and to me I don't see anyone wanking to pixel porn over real porn, if they do great.

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Emily: Gosh both. I'm lucky I can afford a Homestead just to make movies on and I have SL largest green screen  a 1024 meter diameter sphere. The green screens are mostly for space flight, but I could see shooting a whole movie in one.  I build most all my sets as well.

Producing a movie involves... (eg. commentary on steps, time to conceptualize/plan/shoot/edit...)
Emily: Simple movies for me use to take 4 days of editing 4-6 hours perday. shooting use to take 2 hours and set building 4 hours or so.  Now for me it's 3 weeks of editing, planning starts 5 months ahead and sets are usually built 2-3 months ahead. I filmed one episode in January because the site had to be use for another set. the episode was released in July.

A successful actress/actor is...
Emily: Prepared, alert, seen, and works there butt off. Show up prepared, don't go afk cause as soon as you do something about you will need changed. Seen when your not on set make sure you go to parties and getting pictures done so your not forgotten.

I would work with an actor/acctress again because... (eg appearance, personality, dependability...)
Emily: Dependability is HUGE most have no idea how HUGE!!! August 2015 I started looking for new cast members for Intergalactic SLUTS Season 2 which was to start shooting late January 2016.  I made a list and watched people took some in and helped advise them. I want people that look fantastic, do what they say they will and show up when they are suppose to. And if they have something like "Warning I'm a Bitch" written in there profile. no thank you stay away.

A new actor/actress can most benefit from...
Emily: Experience, there are many directors that will use new people and I would prefer they get some experience there and see how normal movies are made before being on my set. Many directors look for newish people and love saying they put them in there first movie. When I say newish I don't mean people looking like noobs.

A new producer can most benefit from...
Emily: Experience, get into movies, watch how other directors work, figure out why they do what they do when they do it. You don't need to ask a bunch of questions, just remember what you seen at the shoot and then see final product and figure out how it was all done. Movie magic!!

What will you be looking for, in general, from a well produced adult video?
Emily: I want to see a nice set, the more details the better. Great animation and properly adjusted. if they go to a club and use freebie animations it's not going to look very good unless they can adjust. A story is nice, anyone can put 2 people on pose balls and hump. Sound, Nothing worse than a completely silent movie. Originality, Stripper and a lap dance is so over done. I would love to see something never done in SL before with life like animations on a beautifully decorated set with some kind of story.
And I can usually tell how much work went in to these productions, I mean a movie filmed and uploaded in 2 hours should never beat one that took months to make.

Raelin Jestyr - SX Magazine Awards Video Categories Judge

Another day, another blog post from SX Magazine. :-)

Today we have the next installment in our raw interviews with the video category judges for the SX Magazine Awards. This is our third judge to profile, with only two left after this. Please enjoy reading the full interview with did with Raelin Jestyr, that we used to write the original article presented in our August issue of SX. This was the first interview I ever did, so I look back on it with a bit of nostalgia :). I hope you enjoy it!

In Raelin's words
Raelin Jestyr started in the SL Porn Business about three years ago after a few years of being exclusively being an immersed in a variety of  roleplaying sims.   However shortly after starring in a few films, she made  film of her own on a whim, just to prove to herself she could do it.  After that the creative bug bit her.   Founding Rabid Jestyr Productions and RJ Studios, Raelin has written/directed/produced several porn Films and and has branched out into photography.   There are several new projects on the horizon for Raelin, but the one closes to her heart is passing on the joy of film making.

I got started in movies...
Raelin: By accident.   I had stumbled into an RP that involved a sleazy porn director who turned out to really be a porn director.

I enjoy being a producer/actor/actress because...
Raelin: It's fun and creative and something to do!

You are passing on your joy of film making by....
Raelin: I have been taking on a bit of mentorship of some budding film makers. I have done a few quickie get started tutorials, and one fairly in-depth training session. haha i have toyed with idea of starting a little film makers 101 seminar. I think film making is actually extremely easy and if more people were able to get a little guidance it would bring alot more films into the Porn industry here.

I draw inspiration from...
Raelin: All over.  Songs, people, jokes, tv.. it can come from anywhere really.  I generally get a little kernel of an idea and kick it around for a while.  some turn into something and some just get put away for later.

The best way to deliver the story in a movie is...
Raelin: I'm not a fan of subtitles but i have used them.   There are definitely alot of limitations to SL Movies, so any method to get your story line across is a good method.

The optimal length for a movie is...
Raelin: 10 minutes or under.. People got things to do!

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Raelin: Full world scenery.  Its almost more important than the characters in any movie.

Producing a movie involves...
Raelin: 10% skill with editing, 90% creativity.    The choices you make as you are filming can only be helped so much with creative editing.  All the hard work comes before

A successful actress/actor is...
Raelin: Patient and flexible and shows up.

I would work with an actor/actress again because...
Raelin: Personality.   I have built projects around people just because they were fun or inspiring before.  Other times I work with people based on how reliable they are or how they photograph.  But if someone is hard to work with, it makes me think twice about worth with them again

A new actor/actress can most benefit from...
Raelin: Visibility.   See and be seen.   You are your best billboard, so make sure you get out there where it can be seen.   Take any and all castings, go to parties, whatever it takes to put yourself out there.

A new producer can most benefit from...
Raelin: Trying new blood.   Sometimes people, including myself get stuck a comfort zone, and you can find yourself using the same people over and over.   One little casting change can sometimes make the difference between an ok project and a WOW project.  There are a lot of uniques look out there!

Toxxic - SX Magazine Awards Video Categories Judge

Hello dear SX mag enthusiasts and assorted awards interested types,

Time for the next installment in our raw, unedited, unfiltered, and unsweetened inteviews with the video category judges. Up today we have Toxxic, a well established store owner, creative consultant, and video blogger. Please enjoy the raw Q&A we had with her that formed the basis for the interview article published in the August Issue of SX Magazine!

In Toxxic's Words:
I joined Secondlife, August 1st 2009. Explored the virtual world, found love and started a career that is still going strong, 7 years later. I am the creator of a brand called AlterEgo. My store has catered to many different fashion genres over the years, currently we are a full skin/beauty/cosmetic boutique.

I do many things here in Secondlife, create, blog/vlog, organize events, custom freelance, photography... we can say I like to stay busy. Secondlife has opened many doors for my creative soul and I still look forward, every day to see where my journey goes.

You are a highly successful store owner, graphic designer, event organizer, custom artist... the list goes on. Your interest in the adult community is...
Toxxic: I believe my interest in the adult community stems from my promiscuous tendencies. My brand is quite suggestive, sexy, dirty, hardcore, flirty ... we aren't over here painting butterflies. lol. I am a skin designer, every detail that goes into my product, is a reflection from tools I am using as reference. Often, I look at RL porn stars, models, many different types of photographs to incorporate shine, gloss, glisten, wetness ... heh you get the idea. I wouldnt think, that anyone would be surprised that the creator of AlterEgo was doing something inside the adult community. I can do kinky ... ;)

Your video experience I understand is primarily related to vlogging for your different SL stores/programs. You agreed to be a judge for these adult specific movie awards because...
Toxxic: Yass! I received an invitation and quickly accepted! In the letter, it sounded really interesting. I have judged a few contests before, I remember them being quite fun and none of them were porn related, so ++! I tend to be a thrill seeker, so when this came across my desk, how could I say no?

What will you be looking for, in general, from a well produced adult video?
Toxxic: I am probably going to be a picky one for sure. When reviewing films, I am typically looking for accuracy in the edit, quality shooting, storyline and the actors performances. My machinima experience is novice probably, but I know when something looks good and well put together. I also know, how hard it is to make a film, my partner is a film director & editor in RL / also the now RL hubby :P~, so the keys on what to look for in a video you are critiquing ... have been absorbed over the years.

Have you ever done, or considered using your artistic skills to produce adult content?
Toxxic: If this question is referring to adult video, yes I have been tempted, I have been approached to star in a couple things, but due to the nature of my main business here, I have declined. To be honest, its a fantasy that will probably never happen, my sl partner, is my rl partner and he would have none of this happening to his pixel wife! So I am content with basically ... being a tease :)

A movie production is different from a vlog because...
Toxxic: Oh well a Vlog is just you, talking to a camera. A movie actually takes some effort lolol. When I produce Vlogs, they are mainly about topics I am either ranting about or trying to teach people something. I am not acting,  I am very real in these videos. Also, most of my Vlogs are live streamed, so skips countless hours in post. Movies, take dedication, time, lots of time, patience, gah just so much goes in to them. My Vlogs haha are just different outlets I use to express whatever is going on in my head at the moment.

I got started doing videos because...
Toxxic: LOL! Well to be quite honest, I started to do videos because I wanted to show my hubbs and our friend, Rysan Fall I could do this too and probably better! Ha Ha, the point of "I can do this too" completed, and the point of "better", still working on it! I have never created a full film or anything to the degree these two have, I dont know even that I have the patience. My stuff is hobby-ish and fun. These two win awards, so ... ya know *looks away*

I enjoy producing videos because...
Toxxic: I like to be able to show, how I see Secondlife to my community of followers. I feel like, we all see this place in a different view. I find it interesting to watch others creative juices flow, so with that same enjoyment, I offer up my POV.

I draw inspiration in my videos from...
Toxxic: Oh! I am a Music Video LoveRRRR! I can sit on Youtube for hours and hours, looking at music videos I have seen 100 times. It inspires me though, to come inworld and try and capture the same effect, look and feel. It will even light a fire to where I create in general, better. Music really does play a huge part in what level of awesome I can create here.

The best way to deliver the story in a movie is...  (eg. subtitles, captions, voice-over, the imagery itself... )
Toxxic: I would say Voice-Over and Imagery. But the story has to be good. Like in my opinion, no good story = no one cares.

The optimal length for a movie is...
Toxxic: Feature Film 1hr 30min
Short film no more than 20 minutes

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Toxxic: Personally I like inworld scenery, but green screen is good to use for certain aspects that can't be achieved otherwise.

Producing a video involves... (eg. commentary on steps, time to conceptualize/plan/shoot/edit...)
Toxxic: For me, my videos are pretty small scale, but I do the same motions as bigger productions. Scout locations, search music, gather actors, draw a storyboard, test shoot, character creation / styling, etc etc lol. Its a process, even on the low end of the totem pole.

a successful actress/actor is...
Toxxic: Someone who can embrace their roles, whole heartedly, devote countless hours to rehearsal and probably have a great work ethic over all. A successful actor, sells it, lives it, breathes it.

I would work with an actor/actress again because... (eg appearance, personality, dependability...)
Toxxic: I would say one would need to be dependable for sure. That sometimes in my experience seems to be the biggest challenge for people to commit to. Yes, ofc personality and the ability to actually act. I really dig people who can work alone as well, self starters and leaders. People who can help and are willing to help others too.

A new actor/actress can most benefit from...
A new video producer can most benefit from...
Toxxic: Same answer for both questions. I feel like when you are new, stepping into, especially a creative field, you will most likely benefit from the amount of time you put in to practice. Whether that be rehearsals or general creating even just sample pieces. I often really stand behind the belief that you will get out, what you put into any one project. I also think, being social with your community, talking to people, exchanging experiences and tribulations, reaching out and possibly collaborating on projects, benefit new people trying to learn tricks of the trade. When you are new, to anything, you need to open for everything. Keep a positive outlook and just absorb all around you like a sponge.

Hard Rust - SX Magazine Awards Video Categories Judge

Hello dear readers,

As we lead up to the SX Magazine Awards, we would like to bring you the full interviews with our video category judges. These are the raw Q&A that formed the basis for the articles we published in the August Issue of SX Magazine. First up, we have a cornerstone of the porn community, Hard Rust. He is a producer as well as a social pillar in the "late night SLT" crowds of porn. And as you can see from the interview, he has a healthy dose of humour and, perhaps, irreverence.

In Hard's Words:
Hard enjoys watching people have fun. Since 2006, he's tried to provide the people of SL with ways to be entertained, usually in a sexual way.  He created Hard Alley to give people a place to roleplay their dirty urban fantasies (the first in SL), and considering the plethora of dirty urban sex sites today, it must have been a pretty good idea.  Hard went on to create the School Girls Gone Bad Detention Center, and later, with his wife Spirit, created Retroville, a 50's themed RP sim based on Hard Alley of the past.  Hard retired from running the sim in 2016 but stays active with the Hard Alley Social Club, located on the Vice Beach Sim.

I got started in movies...
Hard: As a video producer, director, and editor in RL (mostly producing work for the Army), and having what amounted to a sim full of movie sets (Hard Alley), Hard met SL porn video pioneers Emmanuelle Jameson and Serenity Kristan-Faulds and decided to try his hand and producing a quick, fun porn flick.  A succession of videos followed, using standard porn themes such as failing schoolgirl, cheating with the secretary, girls in prison, and down-on-her-luck waitress.  Preferring movies that told stories (usually humorous), Hard teamed up with Ainsley Wirefly for his next movie which was fully scripted and voice acted.  After cranking out yet another simple porn themed movie (naughty nurse), Hard worked with Spirit to produce his longest and last film, "Seams and Dreams Burlesque", winning the Sexiest Award for Best Story.

I enjoy being a producer because...
Hard: Mostly because I enjoy the creative process and have fun telling stories.

I draw inspiration from...
Hard: Old movies.

The best way to deliver the story in a movie is...  (eg. subtitles, captions, the imagery itself... )
Hard: Voice acting makes a huge difference, but subtitles are an acceptable substitute.  It takes a lot of talent to effectively tell a story strictly through visuals.  Music fuck videos don't count.  There's no real story there.

The optimal length for a movie is...
Hard: Normally my answer is "As long as it takes to tell the story", but generally after 5-6 minutes you're going to start losing your audience.  That said, my own movies ranged from 6-19 minutes.

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Hard: Full in-world scenery is best.  You can create just about anything in SL, so why wouldn't you?

Producing a movie involves... (eg. commentary on steps, time to conceptualize/plan/shoot/edit...)
Hard: Making shit up as you go.  lol.  Usually I have a general idea of the story I want to tell, and I'll shoot the scenes based on that.  As I start editing, I fill in the dialog with subtitles and the story evolves from there.  In RL, I rarely shoot any video without a fully approved script, but that's a bit of overkill for SL.

A successful actress/actor is...
Hard: One that can sit on a poseball quietly while the director captures the video.

I would work with an actor/acctress again because... (eg appearance, personality, dependability...)
Hard: Personality.  For me its all about personality.  We're all here to have fun.  This shouldn't feel like work.  Actors with good personalities during a shoot help keep things fun.

A new actor/actress can most benefit from...
Hard: Networking, going to parties, getting to know people, and not being shy.  Be part of the crowd, not a wallflower.  Other than that, make sure you are willing to alter your appearance if the director asks.

A new producer can most benefit from...
Hard: A lot of alcohol, and a casting couch. *winks*

SX Magazine Awards - Tatiana Easterwood ( Photography Categories )

Hello dear readers,

it's a special pleasure to complete this series of interviews to the Judges for the Photography categories of the SX Magazine Awards with Tatiana Easterwood, that after being on the first cover page, we consider like the Godmother of SX Magazine. Combing her outstanding graphic skills with her amazing creativity, Tatiana is undeniably one of the greatest photographers whose works you can admire, and her art goes way beyond the boundaries of Second Life. If you wish to improve your skills at photography, Tatiana's works are the examples to look at. Read Tatiana's tips in this interview by Monique LeFry

After a few boring years in SL playing the good wife or the nasty bitch, I decided to spend my time taking snapshots. When I improved a bit my computer drawing skills I started a flickr stream and from this time taking pictures was my main activity in SL.

The perfect photo is....
Tatiana: a photo with a lot of imperfections

A successful model is...
Tatiana: someone who IM photographers and producers several time a day

A successful photographer is...
Tatiana: someone who loves capturing a unique instant of (second) life and who gives sense to it with a touch of aestheticism.

Unedited or heavily post-processed images (or somewhere in between)?)
Tatiana: heavily post-processed images

What's the most compelling component of a picture?
Tatiana: The meaning

What makes you want to work with a model again ?
Tatiana: Appearance of course but it's not the main criteria... It's easy to buy mesh bodies, faces, clothes but the personality can't be bought and it's definitely what makes me want to work with someone or not.

What can a new model benefit most from?
Tatiana: Try to find something unique in your appearance.

What can a new photographer benefit most from?
Tatiana:  Don't be shy and show your feelings through your pictures, no matter what your post editing skills are, just try to be original.

I love taking photos because...
Tatiana:  in SL, you can play easily with the world, the characters, the situations... so a picture is a way to capture a thought, an emotion or a fantasy... like a snapshot of what you have inside your brain

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Tatiana: 1st step : Green screen with models
               2nd step : full-in-world scenery as background

Single model or group shots?
Tatiana: both but one topic or one idea but must be (as much as possible) a single picture

SX Magazine Awards - Arnno Planer ( Photography Categories )

Hello dear readers,

it's time for Monique's interview with Arnno Planer, the one and original Paparazzi of SL, as well as the fourth judge for the SX Magazine Awards for the Photography Categories. Arnno has a special eye for the most original and detailed individuals of SL, so be sure to read this interview to catch his attention

Arnno Planer has been part of the SL community since 2007. He joined Flickr in 2012, He claims he is not an artist or a photographer, just a photography addict in SecondLife. He is one of the founders of Snapaholic Group in SL. He also says, he is too lazy to learn Photoshop or Gimp, too lazy to work with poses... Most of His pictures are  candid captures, not organized planned "shoots". His technique of photographing avatars without their knowledge, allows him to work at his own pace, without pressure and to take natural shots. It also earned him the nickname, 'Paparazzo' on Flickr and Second Life.

The perfect photo is....
Arnno: It's a photo not always technically perfect, but with a movement, an emotion that gives something true

A successful model is...
Arnno: a realistic model

A successful photographer is...
Arnno: a photographer who finds truth in small details

Unedited or heavily post-processed images (or somewhere in between)?
Arnno: For me a great pic unedited is better than a great pic with an heavily post-processed

What's the most compelling component of a picture?
Arnno: a style, details and an, aesthetics

What makes you want to work with a model again ?
Arnno: I never know in advance :P

What can a new model benefit most from?
Arnno: I prefer models that bring a natural and honest quality to their look. Something real rather than an overdone image of an ideal.

What can a new photographer benefit most from?
Arnno: Find something that inspires you. Something that when you see or experience it, pops into your mind as an image that you would be proud of.

I love taking photos because....
Arnno: this is the best way to chat up girls on sl :-) I don't know because in SL it's very easy to test a lot of things in photography. Easier than RL. Very interesting.

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Arnno: Always full in-world scenery.

Single model or group shots?
Arnno: Both

SX Magazine Awards - Katina Cazalet-Blaisdale ( Photography Categories )

Hello dear readers,

After Spirit and Linc, here we offer you Monique's full interview to Kat, the third judge for the Photography Categories of the SX Magazine Awards. Kat is one of the most active models and actresses in the business, and in this interview she shares her experience with us, offering some interesting tips to anybody who dreams a successful career into the business.

"It was a dark and stormy night of 2012 when Katina Cazalet joined The Sexiest Pornstars group, and the world of porn has not been the same ever since! " Thanks to her exquisite poseball sitting skills and ability to walk from point A to point B, she won right away the Best Newcomer Award. After that, she mostly slacked off dealing with bloggy things for The Sexiest Pornstars group, and being the editor of the Avi Choice Awards nominated magazine founded by her partner. To keep those 'stand around and look cute' skills sharp, she appeared meanwhile on a few dozens movies and photoshoots, which ultimately earned her the Best Female Model of 2014 award at the Black Tie Affair and 4 nominations at the 2016 Second Life Porn Star Awards. She proudly displays those awards in her trailer, next to the bowl of brown M&Ms.

The perfect photo is....
Katina: A myth.

A successful model is...
Katina: A model who gets to work with the photographers she is interested in, with mutual satisfaction.

 A successful photographer is...
Katina: Nothing more than a photographer who is happy with their work.

Unedited or heavily post-processed images (or somewhere in between)?
Katina: In medio stat virtus. If you can see flaws and glitches probably those should have been edited out. If your exquisite editing skills ended up painting the model in a way that doesn't resemble SL anymore, it's entirely a matter of taste. Some love it, and the price list for professional photographers who deal primarily with that style is there to show it. I prefer a well polished photo look without a 'handpainted' feel to it.

What's the most compelling component of a picture?
Katina: Anything that makes you stop browsing the recent photos feed of Flickr and has you click to see. Can be literally anything. If you want me to tell you what I am looking for in a picture, I certainly am looking for the 'xxx' factor in it. By 'xxx' I don't mean anything pornographic, that's just me being punny and avoiding copyright infringement.  What I will take into consideration and find compelling is, how uniquely erotic and alluring the picture is.

What makes you want to work with a photographer again?
Katina: Modeling for someone is a privilege to me. The more I can feel that they enjoyed working with me and that my choices or ability to comply with their requests helped bring them out their ideas, the more keen we both will be to work together again.

What can a new model benefit most from?
Katina: Again, something that can make her stand out. Make your look 'your own'. If you are already confident in your looks, just be aware that it is only a small, although essential, part of it. Be proactive contacting photographers, and keep your expectations low and your patience high.

What can a new photographer benefit most from?
Katina: The world is your oyster. If you are new to photography as a whole, just practice, follow tutorials about both postprocessing and in-world photography, such as posemaking and the way Advanced lighting works. You will choose later what area interests you most, getting results as good as you can in-world or have full control with postprocessing. If you already have experience in picture editing, you have your work cut out for you. Focus first and foremost on being satisfied with the results of your own work and explore the possibilities of SL.

I love being in photos because....
Katina: I am a psychopath!

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Katina: As in question n°4, I am a SL person, I like to see Second Life in a picture. 'Prop' work and set building are underrated skills sometimes.

Single model or group shots?
Katina: I love group shots! For a photographer eventually having more than one model at the same time is needed to bring out certain ideas, and I personally enjoy being instrumental in that. And on the set they can lead to fun and memorable moments.
.....Yeah ok, that being said, I am not a hypocrite: every model loves to have the spotlight to herself, so OF COURSE I say single model shot, thank you!!

SX Magazine Awards - Lincoln Garnet ( Photography Categories )

Hello dear readers,

here's the full interview to Linc from our lovely Monique. Linc is a very well known and respected photographer, who puts a big effort in the 'inworld' construction of the photos. If you want to impress the judges of the SX Magazine Awards, or you just want to learn how to take a great photo, be sure to read this interview carefully

Lincoln Garnet is an Second Life based photographer & designer specializing in exotic and erotic works.  A longstanding practitioner of light and shadow work, Mr. Garnet prefers to shoot in world using constructed sets and natural locales as opposed to adding backgrounds post processing.

Unless specially requested, all of the lighting and shadow you see in his work was obtained in world.

Mr. Garnet has had the good fortune to work with many of Second Life's top designers (fashion, furniture, architecture), models, and prominent figures, partnering to create erotic works that are more sensual than sexual.  While he has been known to create graphic depictions of sexuality at a client's request, he endeavours to produce works that are tasteful and arousing rather than just explicit and shocking.

Along with his partner, Sydney Bonde, he produces work on behalf of IMPACT PhotoWORX, Impact PoseWORX, and  Deep Impact Designs.

The perfect photo is...
Lincoln: ...one that arouses the viewer regardless of the subject matter.  The type of photo that stimulates you and forces you to question your limits and preconceived notions.

A successful model is...
Lincoln: ...one that is distinctive and individual.  One willing to create a look and an image that is wholly his or her own, rather than simply following the current trend.

A successful photographer is...
Lincoln: ...one with vision.  The world is littered with me too practitioners that simply try to emulate a particular style or technique.  A successful photographer is immediately recognizable by quality of their work and the unique interpretation he or she brings to a job.

Unedited or heavily post-processed images (or somewhere in between)?
Lincoln: Neither.  It is certainly possible to create stunning works of art with no processing, but unfortunately processing has a bad rap.  Even the greatest film photographers used processing - they mixed and applied chemicals a variety of ways and they adjusted exposure times, drying methods, and a host of other activities to create works of art.  Processing should enhance the image, not be relied on to create it.

What's the most compelling component of a picture?
Lincoln:  No such animal.  Every photo has a focus - and can only have one focus - but that focus changes based on the intent.  Sometimes it is the lighting; other times its the setting; and yet other times, it is the subject.  Composition is simply how you choose to highlight one of those aspects.

What makes you want to work with a model again ?
Lincoln: Attitude.  I dislike working with models that believe their own PR, or believe they are bigger than the concept.  I like working with models that are down to earth, fun, and want to be part of a vision - not just recreate something that has already been done.

What can a new model benefit most from?
Lincoln: Be adventurous.  And be willing not to follow the crowd.

What can a new photographer benefit most from?
Lincoln: Don't know it all.  Be willing to take risks.  And try to do something first on your own before asking for help or just copying someone else's style.  Anybody can be a photographer; it takes skill, luck and a lot of hard work to be an artist.

I love taking photos because...
Lincoln: I get to show people the world that I see.  For a long time, I never showed anyone my work because I thought everyone saw the world the way I do - I didn't know my vision was different.

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Lincoln: Full in-world scenery.  Not even a discussion.

Single model or group shots?
Lincoln: Depends on what I am trying to show.  Group shots are fun if you are clear what you are trying to show.  But without focus, its just a circle jerk.  And usually a pretty bad one.  Single shots can be powerful with the right lighting and composition - or powerfully boring.  At least once a week I look back at something I did and think, "What the hell was I thinking?"

SX Magazine Awards - Mrs Spirit Demure-Rust ( Photography Categories )

Hello dear readers,

we decided to show you the full interviews with the judges of the SX Magazine Awards, from which Monique created the articles you can read in the June issue of SX Magazine. Like in the magazine, this series begins with the interview to the wonderful Mrs Spirit Demure-Rust. If you want to know how to impress her, don't miss this interview ;)

Spirit joined SL about six years ago. Of course she was introduced to the world of the seedy and depraved right away, and found a home in Hard Alley.  This is where she met Hard Rust, an icon of depravity in the grand world of SL adult entertainment.  While in SL, she developed a love of creating interesting pictures, as SL offers endless opportunities for creativity.  She is a multiple "Sexiest Awards" winner for photography as well as movie script writing.  She helped to build a beautiful 1950s themed sim with Hard Rust (her partner in crime as well as many other things) and has published a vintage style magazine called "The Living End." She has been a regular contributor to various magazines in SL over the past few years as well. She has also been fortunate to appear as a model for others in a few.  She continues to push her creative boundaries in photography.

The perfect photo is....
Spirit:....something that is meaningful to the person taking the picture. That will be translated into the image, and then will mean something to those who are looking at it.  The viewer ends up being a participant in the experience of the photo, not just a viewer

A successful model is....
Spirit:....willing to take risks, and is flexible. Listens to constructive criticism openly and without bitterness. I feel they also have to have a vision of what they want out of experiences, and what THEY want to communicate to others.

A successful photographer is....
Spirit:....open to ideas. Is willing to learn from others.  Pushes their "comfort zone."

Unedited or heavily post-processed images (or somewhere in between)?
Spirit: I am somewhere in between.  I feel that polishing photos is a given. Imperfections that are purposeful are different from cleaning up seams of head/feet/hands. I am all for imperfections....but technical glitches I feel should be cleaned up. I look for those little things. Otherwise, the art is yours to do with what you like, what you're willing to have represent you as an artist. I like to play with editing on my photos.

What's the most compelling component of a picture?
Spirit: The most compelling part of a picture is how ALL components are put together.  For me, there really isn't one thing, it is the impact it makes (or doesn't make) with all things working together. You could have a great subject, but the composition and lighting sabotage it. Or great lighting, but an uninteresting subject. It is important to think of what you want the impact of the whole picture to be, not pieces.

What makes you want to work with a model again ?
Spirit: For me, a model's personality makes me want to work with them again. Being friendly and open, and respectful.

What can a new model benefit most from?
Spirit: A new model can benefit just by talking to people, and being friendly. Get yourself out there. Take some pictures, get them on flickr.

What can a new photographer benefit most from?
Spirit: Same as above! :D  And not being afraid to experiment.

I love taking photos because....
Spirit:....it is an endless source of creativity.  I can make whatever I can think of.  It is a therapy.

Full in-world scenery or green screen?
Spirit: Mostly full inworld scenery that I put together on my platform.  But, for my own growth I have been dabbling in some green screen.  It is fun to use a green screen, it opens up possibilities, but I like creating physical scenes more.

Single model or group shots?
Spirit: Single model shoots are easier to coordinate, but I like shooting both.

SX Magazine, June 2016

Hello dear Readers,

We are honored to announce in this issue the five people who will review, evaluate, generally dissect, and ultimately decide the winners in the photography categories (Best Male and Female Model, Best Photo, and Best Photographer). You should be more than familiar with these names, as they are synonymous with erotic photography: Mrs. Spirit Demure-Rust, Lincoln Garnett, Katina Cazalet, Arnno Planer and Tatiana Easterwood! Look in this issue for articles by Monique on each of them, and maybe glean some insight into what they will be looking for in their evaluation. And tune in next issue for the judges for the movie categories. Also in this issue, Virgil talks to Hydrogen Excelsior, the creator of Niramyth Store, about what it means to be a creator in SL and about his mesh avatars. G gives us deeper insight into the interesting and too-often-overlooked Shemale lifestyle of SL. Leannan gives us relationship advise and explains how to have your relationship last forever...or how to kill it painlessy. And finally in a new episode of 'Him&Her', Jenny, NP, Scotty and Marcus will offer their point of view on this month's pose, Cunnilingus
